Groundwork is holding an exciting new competition which will test the skills development of teams of young people in the delivery of small scale environmental regeneration projects.
The competition has been developed in line with the standards of ‘WorldSkills Competitions’ to give young people the oppportuntiy to demonstrate their environmental skills at a very basic level through the delivery of a practical environmental project.
Teams of between 3 to 8 competitors can enter the competition. Team members must be over the age of 14 and in full-time education, training or attending a volunteering or work experience programme. Any number of teams may enter from submitting organisations.
The competition is aiming to test competitors skills in Planning the Project; Regard for Health and Safety; Landscaping; Construction; Horticulture; Conservation ideas or Environmental Considerations. These skills will be assessed at or below Foundation level.
The first round of the competition consists of a paper based application. Successful entrants will then progress to the ‘live’ final practical event to be held on 16th/17th September during the skillscymru 2010 event at the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff. Finalists will be required to deliver a practical environmental project which will be assessed by a judging panel.
There is no entry fee and travelling costs of finalist teams will be covered, as well as all equipment being provided for the final practical event. The winning team will recieve a cash prize of £500 to donate to a local environmental project of their choice.
