About our Work » People

People People

Groundwork is working in some of the country’s most deprived areas, often where the decline of traditional industries has resulted in the loss of jobs, community pride and social cohesion. These communities tend to suffer from high unemployment, poor health and a lack of public investment.

We play a key role in the regeneration of these communities, working with people on projects that improve the local environment, whilst at the same time providing individuals and groups with the opportunity to develop new skills and confidence.

‘People’ projects focus on empowering and engaging more people to become committed to sustainable development and creating opportunities for people to learn new skills and take local action.  This is closely linked with our role in developing and supporting community environmental networks, working in partnership with community groups to deliver practical environmental improvements.

‘People’ is also used to describe projects whose primary focus is health, youth, volunteering and education for sustainable development or projects that engage people through local culture and heritage or environmental arts.
